Speaking with The Washington Post, PlayStation senior art director Yujin Morisawa said the firm wanted a simple looking controller.
“Except for special editions, we’ve always used those colors,” said Morisawa. “For the PlayStation 5, we tried to eliminate what was already there. I wanted to simplify it and make it universal.
“The shape’s pattern already shows what the button is going to be. You really don’t need a color for the buttons. So I made it one tone.”
The result is a rather elegant white design with black trim on the buttons; however, like the DualShock 4, Sony has said the DualSense controller will be available in other colors down the road.
PlayStation 5 is out on November 12 or 19 depending on your region.
