Fans of the Dark Souls franchise and Bloodborne have been eagerly awaiting the next work from From Software’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mind behind the games. The studio’s upcoming title, Elden Ring has been a mystery since its reveal at Microsoft’s 2019 E3 press conference. In the time since essentially no information about the game has come out. There have been no new trailers, interviews, snippets of gameplay or even leaks. For a while, some folks even thought the game had been outright canceled due to the lack of news surrounding it. Turns out that Elden Ring is still real, and has been played by the head of Xbox himself, Phil Spencer.
In an interview with Gamespot, Spencer told Tamoor Hussain that he’s “Seen actually quite a bit” of Elden Ring and that he’s also “played quite a bit.” Of course, Spencer kept his lips shut on any details, the onus to reveal any more about the game falls squarely on Hidetaka Miyazaki’s shoulders. However, Spencer shared that he thoroughly enjoyed his time with Elden Ring. “As somebody who’s played all of Miyazaki’s games over at least the last decade, this is clearly the most ambitious game that he’s done,” said Spencer. “I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he’s tackling, and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it.”
That shining endorsement will have to be enough for fans eagerly waiting for any more news on Elden Ring. We’re in the middle of the gaming industry’s dry season – a lot of things are coming out and releasing but there aren’t any trade shows or conferences on the horizon. For those, where more news on From Software’s latest title will likely be revealed, players and fans will simply have to wait until next year.
