The Doom Eternal team, which has been working on the game from home for the past ten months, will be busy going into next year. The game’s second paid expansion is releasing sometime in 2021, a continuation of this year’s The Ancient Gods storyline. For those that haven’t tried it yet, The Ancient Gods introduces multiple new mechanics and bosses to Doom Eternal, growing the game in every way that counts. The Ancient Gods – Part Two will wrap up the story of the Doom Slayer that started in Doom (2016). No official release date or price for this expansion has been revealed yet.
Past extra DLC, Doom Eternal will be receiving constant updates through 2021. First and foremost is a next-gen update for the game. While the post doesn’t explicitly say what this update will include, it’s safe to say higher framerates and resolution options on consoles are on the list. Ray-tracing support is more up in the air though, so don’t expect any fancy reflections or spectacular glowing lava until ID Software confirms it.

For those that enjoy Doom Eternal‘s multiplayer experience, more content is coming on that end as well. According to the post, the Doom Eternal roadmap includes “more ways to enjoy Doom Eternal with your friends.” The game’s invasion mode is still being worked on, and its Battlemode is being updated. Soon, players will find more demons to play as and a “re-vamped competitive structure.” Of course, specific dates for these updates haven’t been listed.
