Nioh Director Says Series Has Reached Resting Point

4.2
There have been many series now that have played with Souls-like action RPG formula, many with their own unique takes and spins on it. One of the most interesting, and most challenging, have been the two Nioh titles. The duology came from the famed Team Ninja and saw a heavier focus on combat and strong focus on specific battle systems, somewhat overwhelming so. The games have seen success both critically and financially, and a strong helping of DLC post-launch support. It seems, however, it’s at its end, at least for now.

Japanese magazine Famitsu interviewed a number of different Japanese creators to round out the year, and one of those was the Director for both Nioh titles, Fumihiko Yasuda. While Yasuda did not explicitly say the series was done completely, he said that after nearly a decade of developing the franchise, it has reached a resting point. He also hinted that several projects will soon be put into full development for the next year while also saying his keyword for 2021 was “transition” (big thanks to Gematsu for translations).

“At Team Ninja, the seven years-long development of Nioh series will reach a resting point, and there are several projects that will begin full-scale development in 2021,” Yasuda said. “I plan to change my development style to match my changing lifestyle and concentrate on new titles. As for me personally, I’ll try not to gain any more weight.”

Nioh is available on PlayStation 4 and PC and Nioh 2 is available now on PS4, with the final DLC recently releasing.
