With the release of the Xbox Series X|S and PS5, that means the release of brand new controllers. Xbox brought back a very familiar design while PlayStation decided to mix things up with the DualSense. Since their release, Steam has added support for both controllers and the support has just been further enhanced.
Players who are using an Xbox Series X|S controller will now be able to bind the device’s share button. On top of that, 4 controllers will be able to be used simultaneously on Steam. Trigger rumble was also added in games using the Windows.Gaming.Input API.
The Xbox Elite controller has also been further supported as well. Players should be able to program the rear paddles to whatever functions they would like.
Steam still doesn’t take full advantage of all of the new features of the DualSense controller, such as the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. However, Valve has still provided a small update for the new controller.
Players will now be able to customize its LED lights. There should be a drop-down menu in the personalization menu for the controller that will allow the player to enable, disable, or only illuminate them when multiple controllers are connected.
For those who would like to try out some of the new features, make sure to download the Steam Client Beta and to have it updated to the latest version. If you would like to take a look at a few more additional details, you can check them out over on Steam.
