After a huge weekend of sales like the one that followed Black Friday, you’d expect companies to brag about their success. Nintendo got out there first, saying it had sold half a million Wiis during shop-heavy Friday along with tons copies of its big fall releases. Now Microsoft has released their numbers and with almost a million 360s sold, it looks like it beat Nintendo pretty handily in the hardware realm this Thanksgiving break.

As Microsoft put it in the press release “Xbox 360 sold more than 960,000 consoles in the U.S. alone, of which more than 800,000 were sold within a period of 24 hours.” The total apparently broke records for most 360s sold in a single week, which isn’t surprising given the lower price point and some of the really good deals that were out there for the system.

MS mentioned selling 750,000 Kinects in the US as well, which we’d bet is significantly more than the Move bundles sold last week.
It's worth noting that Microsoft didn’t brag about any software sales numbers like Nintendo, even though its big November release of Halo Anniversary came out the week before. Perhaps it’s nothing, but the lack of any boatful sales data is interesting. Perhaps the remake hasn’t been the Halo-sized hit we expected?
