Activision trumpets $1 billion for Modern Warfare 3

As Bobby Kotick nestles himself between a cloud masquerading as a mattress and a gold-trimmed white goose down duvet (the goose has the gold trim, not the duvet), his mind can gently waft into unconsciousness, accompanied by the pleasing crackle of bloggers typing "one billion dollars." Activision announced the enormous sales figure for Modern Warfare 3 this morning, claiming the milestone flew by within 16 days of the game's launch. We hope George Michael was adequately rewarded for providing his flattest cover yet.

The information is derived from retailer sell-through data and the UK's Chart-Track service, and is positioned in comparison to entertainment nemesis Hollywood, where 2009's Avatar took longer to reach the same sales (19 in total if you ask Wikipedia). James Cameron's 3D spectacle rested on an awful lot of noses and eventually reached $2 billion worldwide.

Alas, that's an indication of Modern Warfare 3's diminishing returns in the news sphere. Next year, we want to see two billion bucks before we commit a sentence.

just cause it looks cool, if bf had prestige symbols id much rather have them,

bf3 has the rank emblems although they aren't like call of duty they are still there why don't you just use those, they don't look that bad, at least the medals don't.

A lot of people think this game needs work including myself, not everyone thinks the same.
I agree, this game needs a lot of work and that doesn't mean were fanboys... Who ever says that we are are just conceded and are so used to sucking call of duty's **** for the past 4 and a half years when the majority of the them started playing it. Im not saying that the game is bad, im just saying that there are a few things they need to fix, and a few things they don't need to fix as well...
Wow i say the game needs work and then i'm fanboy, Ive played all call of duty games and i was disappointed with black ops, and i was hoping mw3 could live up to cod4 or mw2. With the right tweaks maybe but so far i'm not enjoying the game. I've been playing alot more of bf3 which is not a bad game, and getting back into some World at war.

Same here even my friends are starting to play other games more than MW3 I like BF3 better than MW3 it beats it by a long shot half the people that say its a terrible game are just not use to the type of game style you have to play on it I have played COD since COD 3 and the last 2 have been dissapointing and my demands as well as others demands for the series have not even been close to becoming real if the next COD doesnt have a new graphics engine or any thing original I am not buying it unless I get a HD PVR this christmas (I see the case shape under my christmas tree :D)

yea i actually bought bf3 first and hated it! But then i decided to take a break from cod and i actually liked it, the games shouldnt be compared though. And i understand graphics don't make the game, but if the next cod doesnt run on a upgraded engine or something that is actually innovative for a cod, then thats a sign thier just milking the title for our money, because ever time i see that "Call Of Duty" i get ready to blow some cash

why do people complain about younger kids playing the game, if i ever get in a game with one one either game, it's called a f****** mute button, not don't play this game because kids play it. Both games need help and fixes, no matter what you say sales do usually speak for themselves, even if you say people bought the game because of the name, then people still bought the game.
