Veteran calls out “crass”, “hideous” Modern Warfare 3 advertising

US Army Special Operations Command paratrooper D.B. Grady has poured scorn on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3′s live-action TV ads.In an article entitled “The Hideous Marketing of ‘Modern Warfare 3′” for the Atlantic, Grady described the “tastelessness” of the commercial series starring Sam Worthington and Jonah Hill as the Vet and the n00b.

“The advertisement trivializes combat and sanitizes war,” he said.

“After ten years of constant war, of thousands of amputees and flag-draped coffins, of hundreds of grief-stricken communities, did nobody involved in this commercial raise a hand and say, ‘You know, this is probably a little crass. Maybe we could just show footage from the game.’”

Himself a veteran of Afghanistan, Grady said the ad’s timing is particularly poor given escalating conflict.

“As Afghanistan intensifies and we assess the mental and physical damage to veterans of Iraq, is now really the time to sell the country on how much fun the whole enterprise is?” he asked.

“Here I point to the giddy howls of one supposed soldier in the commercial as he fires a grenade launcher at some off-screen combatant. War is great, see? It’s like a gritty Disneyland.”

Activision was also criticised for its 2010 Black Ops marketing, which also used the tagline “there’s a soldier in all of us”.

And I'd bet you'd piss your pants if you we're put in a soldiers place. No matter how hard I try to understand, I can't figure out why this collective group of British people go out of their way to insult the USA, because 99.9% Americans like the British or just don't give a f**k.


The whole world hates the USA, not just English people. But your all to ignorent with your heads up your asses to even relise. Thats why you keep getting soilders killed and civiliend killed and Europe now aslo gets bombed becaues we support your "War OF Terror".

Second, Im not trashing anybody. I just want to mutually say, We have defeated the british army once with mearly a militia. We have grown, as a country, and as a people. There is no doubt in my mind that we could do it again.

P.S., It angers me that you all say our soldiers are ****'s. We are fighting a war on terrorism. I lost my father last year, If you were in my shoes, I would show you respect at least.

America and Britain have been allies since the 1600s

The fact that you think America would crush England or England would crush America is just completely anti-patriotic and a bit sad.

If you want to talk trash about Armed Forces, first, put yourself in their shoes with their best friends dying everyday and them being at risk of being killed themselves.

It's a shame that any of you would even come close to bashing one another of military, you know nothing.

And for those of which who have served, thank you for allowing me to even type this, and for being able to speak my mind. Especially for letting me do all of this in English.

I have lost my brother in 2009 and my best friend in 2010 from our wars on terrorism who they fought side by side with british ,chinese ,european and many other ethnic groups in THE SAME DAMN MILITARY how dare you talk about how they are not real soldiers while you hide behind your stupid computer screens and bash other people you should seriously be ashamed of yourselves and im guessing the majority of you are only 10-15 age you have no responsiblity and no knowledge of your own damn history and im ashamed that the moderators on here actually let this stupid trash talking take place so shame on both of you !
