Activision seems committed to a yearly Call of Duty, and with 2011's Modern Warfare 3 under its belt, it's time to start looking towards the future. While nothing has officially been revealed just yet, new information has it sounding more likely that we may see a revisit to the Call of Duty: Black Ops series in the near future, which makes sense, what with the game making over a billion dollars since it released in 2010.
Fusible reports that Activision has recently registered the domain name blackops2.com, adding fuel to the speculative fire surrounding the next Call of Duty game. Well, Activision didn't actually purchase it directly, they did so through MarkMonitor, a service used by major companies to acquire domain names. A few months back the publisher picked up blackops3, blackops4, blackops5, blackops6, through MarkMonitor, but was unable to get blackops2 for some reason. It would appear that whatever was in the way has now moved aside (likely thanks to a large check with lots of 0s), as the publisher now owns the domain and can do with it whatever it wants. We're guessing that it's going to eventually put a website on there with a countdown clock that will countdown to a tease for a release date of the first trailer, which will actually only tease a longer trailer to be debuted at a later date, but that's just our guess.
There's always the chance that it is just securing the domain names just in case, but we'd be quite surprised if Activision didn't return to the Black Ops universe in the sooner than later.
