Xbox 360 “entertainment apps” usage on the rise
Being marketed as more of a media machine rather than a gaming console, the greater focus on movies and TV streaming services — such as Netflix and the recently announced News Corporation deal which will bring FOX broadcast programming, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News Channel and IGN to Xbox Live — is proof of that.
Hryb also mentioned other stats, such as the amount of “hours of video consumed globally on Xbox Live increased 140 percent from 2010 to 2011,” and that “more than 60 percent of U.S. Xbox Live Gold members used entertainment apps on Xbox Live – for an average of an hour a day each” during December.
He finally ascertained readers that Microsoft is “committed to enhancing and expanding our global entertainment offerings on Xbox Live in 2012,” which is something a man in his position would and should obviously say. Let’s just hope the company is equally committed and up to par with the hype that’s slowly but steadily building up for its next-gen Xbox.

Only Microsoft could charge people to use FREE stuff the greedy bastards.
All this has been on PS3 for years.. no doubt the subscription fees will go up next

Only a handful of apps are any good at the moment. Hopefully they'll get better as Xbox tries to sell to an even bigger market.

I'm still curious as to what information Google learns from the Xbox app, like on the PC, cookies are used to track what videos you watch, without even needing to log in.
Does Google obtain our gamertags from using this app? does this app support 'cookies or our console IDs'
these are all perfectly valid questions, unless you don't mind Google knowing EVERYTHING you do so they can sell you up a river.

TheScaryDoorYeah you got a point, but i still disagree with you. They make more money paying for online, people could just go on the computer and do this free, whilest on the xbox you'd have to pay to watch.bmadden Its still a bit unfair that you need gold to use practically everything. Their usage would go up further if it was free.
Thats called being smart. You make a website that alot of people use but 70% of them use one thing, you would be stupid for not charging them.

Well, the way I see it.They need to pay more attention to cheaper microsoft points, etc.More deals each week.Maybe a cheaper membership or a trial for the apps for "Silver" accounts.
I believe, that everyone deserves it if they have internet.

They might be focusing on theses entertainment apps rather than making it better. The new dashboard is sleek and looks great but I think it is just filled with useless applications that I can just use on my computer. I would rather have them innovate the dashboard to be game friendly rather than the social apps.
