Modern Warfare 3 Weapon Rebalancing and More on “Panic Knifing”

Modern Warfare 3′s creative strategist, Robert Bowling, discusses panic knifing, quickscoping, weapon balancing, and potential nerf to Type-95.

Earlier today, we reported on Bowling’s suggestions on how to deal with panic knifing. In a nutshell, Bowling suggested that players should be careful when walking around corners. This advice aggravated one fan to jokingly demand Bowling to remove corners all together. Robert’s response was quite amusing, “roger. Got it, the answer to camping is to remove all corners. Call of Duty: Circle Warfare will be amazing.” Now that panic knifing is under the magnifying glass, one fan suggested that everyone hates it. Bowling disagreed, “the guy doing the knifing is loving it.” Another fan tried to persuade Bowling by bringing up the realism argument in regards to knifing, Robert answered “that’s the thing about war in video games and war in real life. One is fun; the other is real.” In terms of quickscoping, some players believe that there is a difference in quickscoping mechanics between semi-automatic rifles and bolt actions, Robert refuted these claims, “I don’t believe so. It should be the same mechanic.”

One fan approached Bowling with an interesting observation, basically he stated that Treyarch “messed up” Black Ops by “nerfing everything.” To which, Bowling responded, “I agree that weapon rebalancing should be a very selective process.” I don’t believe that Bowling is criticizing Treyarch, but offering his thoughts on the weapon rebalancing process to be more conservative. As previously mentioned, no additional tweaks are planned at the moment. Read more about the weapon balancing in patch 1.08, which will be released soon on PS3 and PC. One weapon that is still considered to be overpowered is the Type-95, Bowling stated “We haven’t discussed any additional nerfs beyond the slight one we made a few updates ago.” Type 95′s hipspread was slightly reduced back in December.

Clovr everything is perfectly fine right now but because you cant expect all guns to be the exact same, some are bound to be better than the other. Thus leaving all the 12yr old kids to complain about the slightly better guns until they have to choice but to tweak it. After all the guns are tweaked were back to black ops... If little kids weren't running around trying to 720 no scope (what ever they do) they wouldn't die as much. They complain its the fault of the person killing them because they are using a cheap gun but really it just so happens the person killing the quick scoper is just using a popular gun. Try playing the game to its fullest and you won't complain so much. That being said I don't like Call of Duty anyway, I just play it because that's what all my friends are playing.


Why can't everyone playing xbox / ps3 be as educated, and well rounded as you?

My friends and I deeply discussed the panic knifing issue last night and have come to a very reasonable solution. If anyone here uses the Tactical button setting, then you know that it is very inconvenient to take your thumb off of the stick to knife, so you rarely do it. Maybe what they could do is make the Default button setting have the knife as another button, such as the B, which would make Tactical the default which would mean that they will no longer be able to knife instantly since their thumb won't be on the stick already.

First off, No, 2 hit kill knifing is like barrel stuffing with a draganov.

2nd, cant beat them, join the,.

You can knife just as well as everyone else. why not do it?

Complain about type 95?

Use it.

You all the the choice to pick a good weapon.

You don't. so you whine and complain until every single gun in ever single game is the same so there is no variety.


I agree that people that complain about the certain guns should use those guns.

Secondly one way to have a more fair melee system would be to make the player have to switch to the knife rather than instantly slashing someone like the knife is already in your hand.
I think that "panic knifing" is annoying. Mostly because getting slashed or stabbed with a knife will not kill you instantly but in COD the knife kills instantly. They should make a delay with the knife or go back to the older CODs when the melee was with the gun and it took 2 hits to kill. This will lead to more gun on gun rather than have people lunging 10 feet and getting a knife kill while getting shot in the head

When someone comes around the corner at you. PANICS and jams the thumbstick and luckily knifes you when you have no chance to live.
