CoD Developer Seeks Balance Between “Quickscopers” and “Hardscopers”
First, a quick definition of terms: A “quickscoper” can be considered someone who fires a high-powered rifle (usually a bolt-action sniper rifle in this case) immediately after acquiring a target using the game’s built-in crosshairs, taking little to almost no time to aim down the the sights of the rifle scope; a risky but efficient maneuver. “Hardscopers” seek targets in the more traditional sense of scanning the battlefield while aimed down the sights of a rifle scope and firing from this scoped state, usually from an advantageous position.
Along with the rise of quickscoping — a technique that caught some attention possibly during the CoD 2 era, but gained commercial popularity during Modern Warfare 2 — came the controversial debate of whether it can be considered a legitimate technique, or does it exploit the mechanics of a first-person shooter, giving an unfair advantage to the user? Call of Duty developers, Treyarch, made conscious effort to keep 2010′s Black Ops free of such “exploitations”, while Infinity Ward’s recent Modern Warfare 3 embraced it with open arms.
In a conversation with Call of Duty fans, Vonderhaar stated, “I’d like to sit down with the worlds best drag & quickscopers and those who despise it and find something directly in the middle.” He continued, “ADS [Aim Down Sight] sway as well as the ADS and hipfire aim assist (ranges) are tunable on a per gun level. Let’s do this.” To get down to specifics, he then proposed, “.4 ADS raise time. No ‘random bullet.’ Limited hip fire aim assist (MW1 was 1000 inches of hip fire aim assist). Thoughts?” He then clarified that “0.4 is the average on a MW1 style sniper.”
Some fans have expressed concern over receiving only a hit marker when achieving a clear shot to the chest in Black Ops. Vonderhaar explained that this is common “when you are used to ‘chest’ being all the same thing.” However, he admits, ”we wanted it to be a precision shot. Upper torso or head but it was probably too confusing in the end.” It “also had to do with penetration settings,” he added. “You can’t hit a guy in the chest without hitting his arms and hands and sometimes gun first,” which may have added to players’ frustrations.
Vonderhaar was also asked if the possibility of removing aim assist was optional, something that many quickscope nay-sayers would argue is the source of their frustration. He replied, “Yes. It’s now possible to remove aim (hip and ads) from a gun. He also admitted, “the gun not shooting straight till 100% scoped in caused a lot of confusion and frustration for snipers.”
To close, Vonderhaar stated these words: “Balance. That place in the middle where everyone is equally pissed off. Thanks for sharing your passion with me. Reading every reply.”

FreakierTRUTHGCltbessbhopperwaaaaaatepraiderMightyMitchCome_Touch_MeFuzzyFunhole They just need to keep quick-scoping like it was in CoD4. That was the most balanced. And people don't need to be complaining about quick-scoping when "camping" is a bigger problem.
I agree. Camping is more of a pain in my opinion. If somebody wants to quick scope, and get's owned when trying, let them be pissed off. It's their fault for trying to use a bolt action sniper rifle like an idiot.
Camping, on the other hand, is a much bigger problem IMO, that annoys many people.
I don't get why people complain about camping. Noobs have been doing it in every multiplayer game that has ever existed. There's no way to stop it so learn to deal with it.
IMO, the "campers" have been doing it right all along. If you examine real warfare, no one's running around stupidly. And when you're sniping, you should be camping and holding a position, as that's what a sniper does.
um. its a video game. quit trying to bring realism into video games, it doesn't work. the point is that its a sure tactic to not die and take out the enemy, plus sniping is done from 500+ yards away in most cases. last time i checked, mw3's maps are tiny. in a video game it doesn't matter if you die because its a game. so the best tactic is to do what ever it takes to win or get kills. sitting in the back of these tiny **** maps and sniping like you're a marine or something isn't going to get you very many kills and ultimately result in a loss for your team depending on the gametype. so. next person to bring real life warfare into an argument about cod or any other game is a **** idiot. you don't see people saying snipers in halo shouldn't be jumping around and getting up close to win the GAME? do you? k stfu then.
Clearly you have never played Battlefield. The maps are huge and you can act like a real sniper. So yes, please bring realism into an argument. Not every game is Cod
Obviously he hasn't in my opinion battlefield 3 has so far brought the most realism into a FPS(first person shooter) MW3 is highly over rated if you take a shotgun and put a foregrip on it in bf3 it doesn't make it shoot 250 yards. Farther than before it had a foregrip in MW3 it does. Also quick scoping is very difficult in bf3 where in mw3 you can play search and just quicks scope your heart out trying to impress someone else behind a controller just like you. Now an impressive feat would be hitting a headshot with a sniper at like 650m+ on bf3 that's what I would rather do much more
Correction ArmA has better realism but if you own a console only yes BF3 is the best but if you got a pc then ArmA is 200x better.
The people defending quickscoping. It's stupid, overpowered, and a bad strategy. You don't rush with a sniper. I don't care if your FaZe or OpTic it's just plain dumb and an abuse to the mechanics of the game. Camping is a problem that cant be fixed, ever. Camping is a smart strategy because it's defensive playing. But people running around quickscoping is ANNOYING. It's instant kill and it gets on people's nerves. They have no place in the game except for possibly private match. Quickscoping is the worst tactic ever invented and "hardscoping" is how a sniper's meant to be used. I don't care if it's "just a game" it's the truth.

x313xxx I don't see how you guys can Bash Treyarch. Black Ops was the most realistic game there is. This article said they tried taking quickscoping out, but people managed to do it. I'm sure if CoD took out quickscoping people would still manage. Quit crying, because in the end, you know you still will buy it...
Most realistic CoD, I meant.

Haha still crying about camping. I can already tell that you're the type of person to whine, cry and make excuses no matter how many of your complaints get rectified. Camping has and always will happen - so stop crying and get better at your boring run and gun video game.

Alright, kiddies (And yes, I mean you 12 year old try-hards), "Quickscoping" is so Cliched now days. I, personally, don't see what the rage is about it. Honestly, it doesn't impress me that you end up with a massively negative K/D just to get one "cool" killcam. Sure, there are some pretty impressive quickscopes. But you know what's really impressive? Getting a 577 meter headshot on a moving target. Which is what I love about Battlefield 3. You actually have to have SKILL to use a sniper rifle without getting wrecked. Not run up next to me and barrel stuff me, or spray and pray with a Barret. But you know what CoD really needs to fix? Drop shotting. That is so cheap and so stupid. It is not feasible to drop to a prone position whilst maintaining an accurate firing trajectory in less than a second. Especially after sprinting. And to all of you CoD try-hards who say it's part of the game: Go hit puberty and play the game for real.

The only thing I'm going to say is "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 'HARD-SCOPING'" This is called "using a rifle". Whoever made that term up is a douche. Not only is it easier, but that's the way it's meant to be. Yeah I quick scope when close range and I don't really care what goes on because I'm getting bored of the CoD series, but I just can NOT stand people using the term "hard-scoping" and how everyone (the millions of 14 year old children) whines about it in game. It's pathetic!
