Report: Halo 4 ditching Firefight mode for Spartan Ops
A poster on the NeoGAF forums got a copy of the magazine and has written up what was revealed in the Halo 4 preview. We won't go over everything that the poster wrote (we really think you should buy the magazine) but we will talk about a couple of the more interesting facts that came up in the article.
One of the biggest changes in Halo 4 is that the popular Firefight gameplay mode won't appear in the game. Firefight, where up to four players have to deal with endless waves of enemies, made its debut in Halo 3: ODST and returned in 2010's Halo Reach. The game's single player storyline will still have four player co-op support.
However, there's also a new gameplay mode in Halo 4 called Spartan Ops. This will be a single-player mode that's similar to the Spec Ops co-op mode found in the more recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. The plan is to release new Spartan Ops missions after Halo 4 is released and that ultimately it will be close to the regular Halo 4 single player campaign in terms of length.
Halo 4 is currently set for a fall 2012 release date and it seems likely that it will be Microsoft's biggest first party Xbox 360 game of the year.

Im liking the change that 343i Have done,bungie basically found the formula of "forge and custom games" and kept it like that,and when they tried to change (ODST) it sucked ass,so they brought it back in reach and fanboys complained it was becoming CoD,Really? HALO and CoD are nothing like each other,even if they take ideas from each other their NEVER going to be the same,Online is entirely different,Campaigns are different,And their own additions (Spec ops and spartan ops) are welcome in my opinion,and no im not a Halo fanboy,i prefer CoD to HALO.

When you think about, unless i'm interpreting this wrong, Spartan ops is just a second campaign that they release a new mission for every week and you play as your multiplayer character. While i admit that i loved firefight, the fact that what they're replacing it with will provide more info to the halo universe instead of just extra pointless missions is fine! The best part is that they're not gonna charge us anything for these missions! You won't even need an online pass or anything! Hopefully the missions are fulfilling and chock-ful of new info!

What the hell is 343i thinking? Why would they make it more like Call of Duty which is pretty horrible? I understand why they are ditching firefight (because it gets boring really fast and they had it in two games already), but why not add in something else that is original? Don't take the game modes off of a shitty game.

This is incredibly old news. This news came out on March 5th 2012 during the Halo Waypoint's "The Making of halo 4: first look" video. It's sad to know that y'all can't keep up with current news like most other gaming websites. (in other words, this websites news creation response time is awfully poor. to add injury to insult, it's all copy and paste into an article format.)

Seeing as they said that it Spartan Ops will end up as long as the campaign, I assume that it will have a story-line attached to it. Will be interesting to see if this intertwines with the main campaign, but the whole premise seems to be of more value than CoD's Spec Ops.
