Report: Halo 4 ditching Firefight mode for Spartan Ops

Microsoft and its development studio 343 Industries are currently working on Halo 4, the next game in the Xbox 360 sci-fi first person shooter series. Microsoft has been keeping most of the details of Halo 4 a secret but this month's Game Informer print magazine has a Halo 4 cover story that finally gives out quite a bit of information about the game.

A poster on the NeoGAF forums got a copy of the magazine and has written up what was revealed in the Halo 4 preview. We won't go over everything that the poster wrote (we really think you should buy the magazine) but we will talk about a couple of the more interesting facts that came up in the article.

One of the biggest changes in Halo 4 is that the popular Firefight gameplay mode won't appear in the game. Firefight, where up to four players have to deal with endless waves of enemies, made its debut in Halo 3: ODST and returned in 2010's Halo Reach. The game's single player storyline will still have four player co-op support.

However, there's also a new gameplay mode in Halo 4 called Spartan Ops. This will be a single-player mode that's similar to the Spec Ops co-op mode found in the more recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. The plan is to release new Spartan Ops missions after Halo 4 is released and that ultimately it will be close to the regular Halo 4 single player campaign in terms of length.

Halo 4 is currently set for a fall 2012 release date and it seems likely that it will be Microsoft's biggest first party Xbox 360 game of the year.

OOOOO just stop. BF3 is for those who prefer more realistic, tactical, and teamwork orriented games. Halo is for (generally younger) players who want that, OMG DID U SEE THAT!! RUN!! HA! Kind of moment, like custom games. (God I miss H3 now.) And CoD is for teens who just want to play a game to play a game, and PROBABLY either was told by thier friends BF3/HALO/AC is bad! This game is the only good game! Or they created that image in thier own little isolated fan-boy minds. Seriously, I disrespect CoD players. It seems like this generation of gamers (teens) are retarded and don't know what's good, and I'm only 14!



Umm, I kind of resent that. I'm 37 y/o and play mostly CoD, mostly because that's what my friends (also right at my age or older)play. But partially because its fun. BF3 seems to be spawn, get sniped from across the screen. Spawn, run a little, see someone and pull the gun up, only to get sniped from across the map. So on, and so on.

I never liked Halo, mostly because I smoke WAY too much pot for all that runjumpshootjumpturnshootjumprunjumpjumpshootjumpgrenadejumprun...etc. My mind dont work that f******g fast anymore.

I think they are all good games. However, only one is for my taste. That's CoD. Why cant people just accept that not everyone is going to like the same games. Thats why there are so many to choose from. Opinions are like ***holes, and if I wanted yours I would beat it into you....:D

im 18 now, been playing cod/halo/moh/rainbow6 since i was 12. Used to love halo b4 i got cod4. still think its ok, halo is very diff from many shooters thats y i like it. Cod has always been my favorite cuz its fun and all my friend play it. All bf games, i spawn and i get sniped. i actually like BF3 but dam i hate the snipers! i thought trickshoters were annoying from mw2! bf3 still a solid game tho. hate vehicles in all shooters. vehicles ruin it for me. ghost recon coming out xD gonna be sick

I don't see how they're going to ruin it, they pretty much said Spartan Operations is better than Firefight.. and if you're a fan of FF, you were basically asking for a mode like Spartan Ops.. give them a chance and see what they do.

morleyyy There is nothing wrong with a game taking a feature from another game. That's whats going to make the game better as their taking the best parts of other games to help improve another game.
