Chart Shows List of Xbox Studios After Activision Acquisition

4.5
Xbox's groundbreaking acquisition of Activision and Blizzard has significantly increased the number of developers within the Xbox first-party family. Thanks to a new chart, Xbox fans can see exactly what studios of Activision are being assimilated, and what other developers they will be joining.

The news that Xbox is acquiring Activision Blizzard is still very fresh, with publications all across the industry trying to wrap their heads around it. A blockbuster purchase if there ever was one, Xbox will soon have full rights to Crash Bandicoot, Call of Duty, Warcraft and many other high quality franchises, all for the tune of about $70 billion. Fans of Xbox will surely remember its previous landmark acquisition when it bought out Bethesda and incorporated its library into the Xbox first-party family. With Activision Blizzard joining Xbox, all of its very talented developers will begin working for Xbox, helping improve the company's brand and industry control.

Twitter user and Xbox enthusiast Klobrille has made a very clean chart showing off Activision Blizzard's place with the Xbox first-party studio family. Under the umbrella of Xbox's general first-party collection are three main groups: Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and of course, Activision Blizzard. Included with Activision Blizzard are nine studios, most of which have worked on the Call of Duty franchise in some capacity. These studios are Call of Duty Vanguard's Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, High Moon Studios, and Beenox.

Rounding out the remaining studios are Blizzard Entertainment, Toys for Bob, and King Games. Blizzard Entertainment is most known for its work on the Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch franchises, though in recent months has suffered due to its ongoing misconduct investigation. Toys for Bob took the reins of the Crash franchise in 2020, releasing the ever-challenging Crash 4: It's About Time to critical acclaim. Lastly is King Games, Activision Blizzard's mobile developer, most known for creating the highly popular Candy Crush, and a variety of other titles.

Klobrille's chart provides a very clean breakdown of Xbox's first-party studios, emphasizing just how massive the family has become. There was a time not too long ago that Xbox only had a fraction of these developers, and the ones it already had seemed like they were being underutilized. Now, Xbox has practically an army of developers specializing in a variety of different games and genres.
