Yet another PS5 update focuses solely on system stability

4.2
PlayStation has rolled out another PS5 system update and, just like the three that came before it, it just improves the system’s performance.

According to the patch notes found on the PlayStation website, the latest PS5 system update - version 21.02-04.51.00 - "improves system performance" and nothing else. This is probably a good thing as it means there are currently no major issues that Sony feels it needs to address in its next-gen console.

The last time we had a major PS5 system update was in the 21.02-04.00.00 update in September 2021 where the console got a number of new additions including M.2 SSD support, 3D audio upgrades, home screen configuration, and more. But ever since then we’ve just had standard run-of-the-mill system performance improvements.

In other PS5 news, it was recently discovered that the new PS5 DualSense colored controllers (Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple) have all received minor upgrades to their components. Thanks to one YouTuber who took apart the three controllers, we got to see that the new DualSense controllers have more powerful springs and new parts that might fix stick drift.

There has also been news lately on the new PSVR 2 which was officially unveiled just two weeks ago. The upgraded version of the PSVR from 2016, the PSVR 2 will give players adjustable lenses, better vents, and a lighter headset to name just a few of its improvements. There’s no confirmed release date for it yet, however, the PSVR 2 is rumored to release at the start of 2023.
