Nintendo: Wii U online functionality will be free

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata doesn't believe there should be a fee for connecting Wii U consoles to the Nintendo Network.

According to a translation of Nintendo's annual shareholder meeting via Andriasang, Iwata said that having all users able to freely access the network will help spread the service's offerings through word of mouth. This tactic, his translated commentary suggests, is thought to lead to greater hardware and software sales.

Iwata also revealed that external developers were brought onboard with Wii U at about the same time as internal studios, which he hopes will counter lagging third-party performance. To prove Nintendo's renewed focus, Iwata reportedly pointed to the upcoming Namco Bandai collaboration behind the new Smash Bros. coming to Wii U and 3DS.

The games are still going to be $100 dollars a piece so nobody is going to play online anyway.

Arrow Nintendo is always free online, thats another plus. I got sick of paying for xbox live and having to deal with there crappy outsourced support. I'm still on the fence about whether or not to buy a Wii U. I guess I'll wait until I hear more about it and see it in action. If its as good or better than the ps3/xbox then I will probably get it. Glad to see a dedicated controller as well. hopefully it gets proper release Call of duty games and so fourth...


I used to love CoD on Wii! Was amazing! But I think Xbox is the top product tbh...

why? they have way more money than the other companies. why would they stop now?? they can make their next gen console probably more than 2x better than sony or nintendo
