Microsoft obtains 'Xbox 8' domain names

Through the National Arbitration Forum, Microsoft has won the rights to a series of Xbox-related domain names formerly owned by Cheng Juan of China. The disputed domains include things like xboxcompanion.com, xboxlivetv.com, xboxphone.com, and xboxtablet.com, but also xbox8.org and xbox8.us.

Microsoft was likely most interested in regaining these just to protect its own IPs – and the immediate use of things like xboxlivetv.com and xboxphone.com seem apparent.

It's tempting to suspect Microsoft is eyeing "Xbox 8" as the next console name due to the two domains that reference it; however, Microsoft already began integrating Xbox Live, and the "Xbox" name, into all its consumer products, including Windows 8. Also, it would be really weird if a domain squatter guessed the name.

They are probably just picking up sites that "May" be useful in the future. If xbox 8 is real. I would say it has something to do with windows 8

Oslo Xbox8? They're going from the 360 to the 8? I find that hard to believe. And I'm also worried about xbox creating a phone, and also t.v.s. But, I am excited to see a tablet come from xbox live, hopefully to do better than sony with the PSP Vita. And I'm not too sure what the xboxcompanian domain is, unless that's like a dating website for gamers or something.


Just because they register a domain, that doesn't necessarily coincide with their actual plans.

Sometimes companies like Microsoft register these domains "just in case."

So don't get your hopes up for a dating site. ;)

Maybe something to do with windows 8 being on a xbox 720?
