Dark Souls’ multiplayer servers are still down more than three months after a dangerous exploit was discovered that could allow malicious software to be run remotely on a player’s hardware. Three months of almost total silence on when those servers will go back online. It’s been long enough for every Dark Souls game to lose its multiplayer tag on Steam, and many fans are losing hope that Bandai Namco will restore multiplayer functionality at all to the Dark Souls franchise.

But in the depths of despair, Bandai Namco has offered a tiny ray of hope. Responding to Reddit user Relevant_Heart_1751 (via PC Gamer), the Dark Souls and Elden Ring publisher confirmed that developer FromSoftware is “actively working” on getting those servers up and running.

"I'm getting back to you in regards to your inquiry if the Dark Souls servers for the PC will be back online," wrote Bandai Namco. "I'm happy to confirm that the developers are actively working on resolving the issue in question and re-launching the Dark Souls servers for PC as soon as possible. For the moment, we do not have an estimate of when this is expected to happen."

In order to prevent potentially catastrophic hacks to player computers, Bandai Namco took down the multiplayer servers for Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, and Dark Souls Remastered last January. At the time, Bandai Namco said that it was necessary to pour all its resources into fixing a similar exploit that could affect Elden Ring, which would eventually release to millions in sales far beyond the publisher's expectations. In February, Bandai Namco released details on the exploit and said that a fix was in the works, but it's been largely silent since then.

Some Redditors are skeptical, calling Bandai Namco’s response an auto-reply designed to placate angry Dark Souls fans. Either way, this is the most we’ve heard from the Dark Souls publisher in months, and it at least seems to indicate that Bandai Namco hasn’t completely forgotten about the Souls series.
