Activision Apparently Forced Nintendo To Release Wii U Pro Controller

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has claimed that Wii U’s Pro Controller was only created after Activision threatened to leave Call of Duty off the machine unless it has a traditional input method.

“I think that essentially this is a solution in search of a problem,” Pachter said, speaking at Develop in the UK last week, as reported by Edge.

“I mean, somebody had an idea – ‘let’s make the controller a tablet’ – and there aren’t many games that are going to take advantage of that. Activision never said anything to me, but I know that [for] big games like Call Of Duty they said, ‘No, we’re not putting it on there if you don’t give us a conventional controller’. So they gave in.”

Nintendo confirmed the Pro Controller – a traditional format controller in the model of 360′s pad – at E3 this year.

Pachter went on to say that Wii U as a concept is likely to fail.

“I don’t think they suck – I just think that they really believe that, ‘If we’re still novel, everything we do will work’. This isn’t going to work,” he said.

“Hardcore gamers will buy them; hardcore Nintendo fanboys will buy it. They could put out a piece of cardboard and say that it’ll play Mario and they’ll buy it.”

Wii U releases this year.

DemonSurfer lol @Nintendo copying XBOX,some kids don't know much about gaming do they.Nintendo pretty much invented the video game controller and system as we know it today,the D-pad,Analogue Stick,Rumble all came from Nintendo and that's just for starters.It's very doubtful there would even be an XBOX in the 1st place without Nintendo.Try doing some research it might educate you a little.


Atari created the pause button (deriving from the 5600), can't get any better than that.
Atari had a joystick and 1 button, no pause button! Nintendo made that.


No, the Atari 5200, it was one of the first to create a "pause" feature within a game.

Why do people actually care about the design of the controller? I think it looks pretty cool.

Even if it does look a little similar to the XBOX360 controller, how is that a bad thing? If you play on XBOX and use the Wii U Pro, then you'll have very little time to mess around with the controller and get used to where the buttons are.

Lmao they might of created it buy Xbox did and does it better than Nintendo. Name the last thing actually worth buying that's come out of Nintendo...

Doesn't the video game screen also pop-up on the TV? I'm guessing it's for that.

Swap the x button with the b button and turn the 4 buttons clockwise 90 degrees and you got a xbox 360 button layout................................................
