As announced in a blog update on Halo Waypoint, campaign co-op will be added to Halo Infinite on July 11. Some details on how it will function have also been revealed- such as the fact that all players playing together will be able to make progress towards their own save rather than just the Fireteam leader.
“When players join the Fireteam and choose their save slots to play on, the game aggregates the states of all missions across those saves and sets up a world state in which any missions completed by all Fireteam members are marked as complete while any missions not completed by all are marked as incomplete,” explains lead world designer John Mulkey.
“You can think of this system as creating a version of the world that’s like the ‘lowest common denominator’ (or ‘intersection,’ if you’re into set theory) of everyone’s Campaign progress. This way, no matter what you do, no one is completing missions out of order,” adds principal software engineer lead Isaac Bender. “What this means is that any unlocks you find in Co-Op are retained in single-player. So, if you’re having a really hard time collecting a Skull, you can get in a game with a friend, and if they collect it while you’re in that session, you’ll get it too.”
In co-op, Halo Infinite’s campaign will also place a limit on how far players can be from each other, referred to as “Area-of-Operations”, which will have a radius of up to 1000 feet. Meanwhile, cross-play across all platforms is, of course, going to be supported.
In addition to campaign co-op, another major feature that was missing from the game at launch and has been heavily requested by the fanbase will also be coming on July 11 with Mission Replay. In case you’re unfamiliar with Halo, that’s exactly what that sounds like, and will give you the ability to instantly replay missions you’ve already played before.
New Achievements tied to campaign co-op and Mission Replay are also being added.
Halo Infinite is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. As for Forge, 343 Industries is planning on adding that to the game sometime in September.
