Black Ops 2 customization and 'League Play' brings Call of Duty to the future

The most important shift for the Call of Duty franchise was when developer Infinity Ward transformed the World War II series into a modern era military shooter. Infinity Ward changed what it meant to be a Call of Duty game: it became a game focused on action and not the war itself. Treyarch, the developer that brought the series to the Vietnam war in 2010, pushed beyond the timeline boundary set by the original developer and rests much of its next game – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 – firmly within the year of 2025.

For its multiplayer experience, Black Ops 2 takes place exclusively in this near-future time period.

Despite going to "the future," the setting of Treyarch's latest effort isn't as drastic a change as it was when Infinity Ward made the period shift in 2007, but many of the features found in Black Ops 2 are just as crucial as the franchise's modern era setting change. Based on these new features, Treyarch – once thought of as the series "B" team – may be the studio dictating the future of Activison's annualized Call of Duty franchise going forward. And the new position suits them.

Yeah the trailer said like, 2025 or something, which is only a few years away. I wonder if we're going to have stuff like that soon irl.

Yeah I think it's good that they're finally changing stuff in cod.


What exactly have they changed other than the Create-a-Class? They add new stuff every year but they don't change it because they know idiot 12 year olds will still buy the same game every year just because it has a new cover and a higher price!


You're right, its all the same garbage, but still we buy it.

I still want it though .-.

Well I'm buying it regardless. I just want to play some new zombies maps, im getting bored here!

Probably wouldn't have zombies anyway as zombies is treyarc's game mode so IW would go with something other than Spec Ops i hope


they could make a game that is based on the Terminator series! I mean, yeah it's not CoD but i think it would be a really really good campaign!

Sage After this IW and Sledgehammer Games should end the CoD series with a repolished CoD4.

CoD4 was and still is the greatest Call of Duty game ever.

None of the others in the series could live up to the glory of CoD4.

I would be very happy if they would make a "repolished" version; that it would have better graphics, no juggernaut, and no martyrdom.

Good way to end the Call of Duty series if you ask me.

But in all reality this won't happen, unfortunately.


With you on this one cod 4 was a great game and now you can barely go into a game without hackers a good game ruined i mean mods are fun if they are kept offline in private matches but taking them online has ruined a good game i say it would be amazing if it happened as you said tho it never will :(

there aren't many more past wars they can cover, i think they've done them all...
