Anonymous claims PSN hack affecting 10 million

A member of hacker group Anonymous has claimed to have hacked the PlayStation Network.

According to the 'hacker', a 50GB database of user information has been stolen, affecting some 10 million people.
A list of email addresses and seemingly encrypted passwords has been published, linked to via Anonymous' Twitter account.

But are the claims genuine? Evidence suggests not; as Kotaku reports, the list of supposed PSN email addresses released by the hacker appears to be a cut-and-paste of a previous and seemingly unrelated email list posted back in March.

Regardless, probably worth nipping online and changing your password, just in case.

Sony is yet to respond to requests for comment.

The threat of another PSN hack will be no small thing for PlayStation owners who endured weeks of PSN downtime and the threat of identity theft when the network was hit with a series of major attacks last year.

Update: Sony Computer Entertainment America's Shane Bettenhausen has deemed the claims "totally fake" via a Twitter post that has since seemingly been deleted.

so can alot of people with out hacking. and there not really no lifes, and atleast they have actually done something with there life. what have you done? played a few sports here and there? gone to some parties?


well yeah, i skate, i'm entering a huge contest this fall. i'm not a no life like them lol

No he isn't a fanboy, Xbox makes us pay for much much better security and earlier releases for a lot of things. Ps3 is no where near where Xbox is, and it's more expensive


I own a Xbox so I think I can voice my opinion on this.

I doubt we are paying for security.

Microsoft can have all the security in the world and could still get hack.

The Pentagon has gotten hacked, and the FBI's website gotten DDoS'ed.

So if someone really set their mind to hack Microsoft (or should I say Xbox Live) it could be a possibility someone could do it.

The Xbox is not perfect, neither is the PS3, but the Xbox is not better just because you're paying $60 a year for online gaming, and PS3 doesn't suck because PSN is free.

The PS3 is not really expensive.

You can get a 160 GB PS3 Slim model for $250, $50 more dollars than a 4 GB Xbox 360 Slim Model.

Also the PS3 "Super Slim" is suppose to be coming out and expect a price drop to be coming.

So for a conclusion, saying Xbox is "better" is a complete understatement.

The only thing I see that Xbox has that doesn't PS3 have is cross-game party chat.

Is that worth $60? I honestly do not think so.

That is why I am getting a PS3.

I like Xbox, I just do not Microsoft's money-making schemes.

i have both xbox and ps3 and honestly i like my xbox better, it has better voice quality which is a big factor to me and early releases for games, also the players on ps3 are mostly ghetto trash (not saying all but from my experience that's how it's been) so i'm going to have to say xbox
