No More Heroes 3 On Steam Is A Port Of The Switch Version

4.2
No More Heroes 3 released on PC only a day ago, and certain fans have begun pointing out that the Steam version is actually a port of the original Nintendo Switch title instead of the better-looking Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions that released along with it.

The game originally launched exclusively for the Nintendo Switch back in August 2021, but in July of this year, it was announced that it would be coming to all other platforms, including PC, on October 11. Despite getting noticeable visual upgrades in the current-gen console versions, the PC version is much closer to the original Switch iteration.

Though the Xbox and PlayStation versions aren't worlds apart from the original, comparisons made by diligent fans show more detailed character models, additional assets, and better textures. Fans have also claimed experiencing lower draw distances, in which objects noticeably fade out when you move too far away. The one positive that the PC version does have, as opposed to the Switch, is better performance, for it does feature an uncapped framerate.

No More Heroes 3 is, as you can guess, the third mainline entry in the No More Heroes series. It was made by Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio led by well-known irreverent designer Goichi Suda, also known by his alias, Suda51. No More Heroes is arguably the developer's most known IP, but it is also responsible for memorable titles such as killer7, Liberation Maiden and Lollipop Chainsaw. Recently, Suda stated that even though No More Heroes 3 is meant to be the last battle for main character Travis Touchdown, if fan outcry is loud enough, the series could continue.

It is quite unclear why the studio chose to port the Switch version if better-looking current-gen console versions were being developed simultaneously. It could have been a case of work delegation through which different teams were assigned to the different platforms, though this is nothing more than speculation. What's clear is that Grasshopper Manufacture may have quite a debacle on its hands. The Xbox, PlayStation, and PC versions are all priced equally at $49.99, which could be seen as a discrepancy if one version is noticeably worse-looking.
