The Callisto Protocol Has Gone Gold

4.7
Horror games have been dominating headlines of late, with the likes of Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill 2, and Dead Space all having caught plenty of attention with their most recent showings, but while those genre giants are, of course, turning heads, another upcoming survival horror title that has been generating just as much excitement is a newcomer to the scene- Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol.

And the sci-fi horror title has hit a major development milestone. Taking to Twitter, the developer recently announced that The Callisto Protocol has gone gold, which means principal development has wrapped up, and the game is now ready to be pressed onto discs. Any work that Striking Distance Studios does on it from this point forward in terms of bug fixes and polishing will come in the for of day one or post-launch patches.

Taking heavy inspiration from the aforementioned Dead Space and developed by a team led by its creators, The Callisto Protocol is set on Jupiter’s titular moon, where a maximum security facility named Black Iron has been overrun by nightmarish horrors and monstrosities. Striking Distance Studios is promising buckets of gore, dynamic AI, an emphasis on horror, and much more.

The game will be roughly 12-14 hours long, while it’s also been confirmed that it will feature a 60 FPS Performance Mode on current-gen machines. Striking Distance Studios has also said it will receive a full year of post-launch support, so specific details on that front are currently scant.

The Callisto Protocol will launch on December 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
