Nintendo to region-lock the Wii U

Nintendo will implement a region lock process for its Wii U hardware, the company has confirmed to CVG.

This means that games bought in the US, Europe or Japan will only be accessible for machines built for those regions.
Region-locking devices is a longstanding Nintendo policy that has been in place across numerous games consoles including the 3DS, Wii, GameCube, N64, SNES and NES.

Platform holders Sony and Microsoft take a different stance to region-locking. Both allow publishers to decide whether they want to lock games to continents, of which in most cases they do not.

The N64 on this sounds cool same with the GameCube :)
I hope it has all the old games they where fun.

8th The Wii is never going to be a big product because of xbox and ps3. They can keep coming out with Wii u, Wii t, Wii 7, nothing is going to be as big as Xbox or Ps3 in my opinion

Nintendo has sold the most video game consoles in gaming history... The Wii has out sold both the Xbox360 and the PS3. The Wii has sold over 100 million units, the Xbox at 66 million, and the PS3 at 64 million.

So you can't really assume that the Wii U won't be as big as the Xbox 360 or PS3. It may sell more units than both of them
