Sonic Frontiers Director Responds to Suggestion About The Final Boss

3.7
The director of Sonic Frontiers responded to a thread regarding the game's final boss, where it offered suggestions on how to fix it and its divisive nature. When fans discuss the game, one of the commonly brought up points is Sonic Frontiers' titanic boss fights, having the player utilize Super Sonic in all of them. The first three bosses against Giganto, Wyvern, and Knight have all been praised for their scale and conveying the power of Sonic's golden transformation, along with some adrenaline pumping music. The only exception to this is the game's final boss fight against the Supreme Titan, along with the true final boss waiting on the other side.

Twitter user Infinite_Cubes posted an entire thread on the site that offered a number of suggestions, even stating that it was a pitch for Sonic Frontiers' upcoming updates in 2023. This includes giving Supreme a higher health bar, new moves where it uses its giant rifle to shoot attacks Sonic can parry, to a climatic QTE finisher. The following fight with The End was also given similar suggestions for a second phase, where Sonic has to fight the giant moon with Sage piloting the Supreme in a 3D fight.

The thread ended with them directly mentioning Sonic Frontiers' director, Morio Kishimoto, stating that they hope that the suggestions provided could make the final boss better while developing the game's upcoming update. Kishimoto responded to the thread, noting he did read it and thought it was a great idea and even found it inspiring. However, he reminds the fan that development time is limited, but promises that he can create something that he hopes fans will be satisfied with.

Sonic Frontiers' Supreme boss fight is regarded by some fans as an underwhelming finale in comparison to the last three Titan battles, with many issues stemming from how easy it is. These range from the boss' health bar being obliterated if Sonic's stats are maxed out, to it being too similar to the first boss that it doesn't feel threatening, making it an anticlimactic fight. The true final boss fight against The End was similarly divisive, where the gameplay switching to an Ikaruga-styled space shooter was also seen as lacking after the climatic battles against the big behemoths.

While some fans are open to the ideas that were suggested to make the finale a better spectacle, others raised concerns about directly notifying a game director like this to offer critiques, especially when it opened up with calling it the worst boss fight in the series. Fans fear that since Kishimoto has stated he is open to the criticisms of Sonic Frontiers, along with him directly responding and considering to a fan's feedback like this, it can lead to others pestering him with their own ideas without considering boundaries.

Sonic Frontiers is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
