Nintendo Is Increasing Switch Production To Prepare For Zelda

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo has begun to increase Switch production. The last couple of years have been tough on Switch sales due to high demand and a semiconductor shortage in the global market, and according to a Bloomberg report (via IGN), Nintendo has told suppliers that it plans to increase production for the financial year ending in 2024.

Nintendo has managed to weather the supply shortage storm, although the company did revise its sales forecast in November 2022. Tears of the Kingdom is expected to not only be a top seller for Nintendo when it releases in May but also a shot in the arm for system sales that have been impacted by supply constraints. Those challenges didn't stop the Switch from being the best-selling console in the US for overall unit sales, and as of September 30, 2022, over 114 million Switch consoles have been sold worldwide.

Additionally, the next limited edition Nintendo Switch OLED console is rumored to be a Tears of the Kingdom-themed Switch, as photos of it recently leaked online. First revealed all the way back at Nintendo's E3 2019 Direct presentation, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom will launch May 12 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, has had a strong run thanks to its position as a Switch launch game and has sold over 27.79 million units since it was released, making it the fourth-best-selling game on the Switch.
