Call of Duty Warzone 2 Map May Hint at Next Black Ops Game

3.8
An official blog post about Call of Duty: Warzone 2's latest map may have resulted in the discovery of a future Call of Duty: Black Ops title. Black Ops games have always been a fan-favorite among the Call of Duty series, owing to the bold narrative choices and strong characters Treyarch has always put forward. While Activision seems to be fully supporting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 for the foreseeable future, this new information might start the rumor mill once again.

The original Call of Duty: Black Ops delved into the Cold War conflict bringing players in contact with characters like Mason, Woods, and Hudson. Since then, the Black Ops series has gone back in time to World War II and even traveled to the distant future. Among Call of Duty games, the Black Ops series has garnered quite a passionate fanbase. While players do enjoy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games, the latest Modern Warfare 2 has soured the taste of quite a lot of fans. If Activision is to regain the support of its fanbase, the return of this fan-favorite series is the safest way to go.

Merely two days ago, Activision revealed the brand-new map coming to Warzone 2. This new map, called Ashika Island, will serve as one of the playable areas in Season 2, as well as reintroduce the fan-favorite Resurgence game mode in Warzone 2. As Season 2 is nearing the launch date, Activision has shared a few interesting tidbits regarding Ashika Island in an official blog post. As noticed by Twitter user MavriqGG, the blog post states that the development of Ashika Island was halted in the mid-1990s due to two conflicts which are redacted. The post goes on to state that travel and access to this island have been heavily restricted.

While this might seem like an innocuous info dump about the new map's lore, players are right to suspect that Activision might be leaving breadcrumbs to follow. Previous rumors regarding the next mainline Call of Duty game have already suggested that the future game will possibly be set during the Gulf War conflicts. And a second rumor regarding the Call of Duty Zombies timeline also lends some credence to this rumor. While this is not an outright confirmation, the timeline of Ashika Island outlined in the blog post lines up quite well.

If the rumors are to be believed then Treyarch will be breaking new ground by attempting to create a game so close to the current timeframe of the world. Compared to the settings of Black Ops and Modern Warfare titles, the Gulf War conflicts have remained relatively untouched by Activision. But fans should beware and not believe any rumors until the official confirmation arrives. For now, fans of Call of Duty can enjoy Ashika Island and all the secrets arriving with it on February 15 when Season 2 launches.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Runts People can say what they want but black ops cops war was the best CoD we've got in a very long time. Also was the most OG feel to it since the old cods

Black Ops: Cops War... don't give them any ideas man!
But yes, I do agree with, as far of CoD games go these days, it was a stronger one

Xbox I'll be looking forward to the resurgence returning in the new ashika island map, was a huge fan of blackout when it first launched along with rebirth island. In my personal opinion cod went downhill after BO2 the best cods imo will always be Cod 4, WaW, MW2, BO1, MW3, BO2

I'd say they went downhill from MW3. Another Black Ops game just sounds ridiculous to me.
How much can they squeeze the name?
