Finally released earlier this month after years of fans pleading with Capcom to revisit the survival horror classic, the Resident Evil 4 remake sold over 3 million units in just its first two days of release. Keeping the bones of the original title while giving the game a graphical facelift and making some changes to the content, the long-awaited remake has been lauded by many players and critics as a fitting tribute to the original. Praise for the title hasn’t been universal, though, with some gamers criticizing the game for not doing enough to change up the formula from the original Resident Evil 4.
Illustrating how enemies in the Resident Evil 4 remake can pose a threat in some unexpected ways, a new clip posted to r/residentevil shows a player getting caught in the blast after having their grenade swatted back at them. Posted by Reddit user bossfight1, the short video shows Leon doing battle against a group of Garradors and soldiers before deciding to toss a grenade towards them to thin out the horde. Unfortunately for bossfight1, right as Leon unleashes the carefully aimed grenade, a soldier tosses an axe in their direction that intercepts it in midair. This causes the grenade to tumble to Leon’s feet before exploding.
Welp.

Fans of the Resident Evil 4 remake responding to the video found it hilarious, with one Redditor joking “That’s what you get for playing on April fools.” Another comment cited the clip as an example of how dynamic and unexpected encounters in the Resident Evil 4 remake can be, sharing a story of getting caught in a bear trap when trying to avoid a stick of dynamite tossed by a Ganado. Implying that turnabout is fair play, one response joked that the Ganados learned how to deflect after watching so many players shoot down axes midair in the original.
While this particular encounter may not have ended well for Leon, it definitely managed to provide a laugh for some fans of the survival horror hit. And while falling victim to your own grenade is never a fun experience, at least this Leon didn’t have to suffer the indignity of death by trolling in Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil 4 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
