Rumor: Possible Custom Starfield Xbox Controller Leaks Online

4.6
A custom Starfield-themed Xbox controller has been leaked online, though its legitimacy is still in question. Alongside Redfall and Forza Motorsport, Starfield is a major part of Xbox's first-party lineup this year as one of the most hotly anticipated games of 2023.

Two years after Xbox's acquisition of Bethesda, Starfield has become Xbox's most sought after AAA first-party title. From the studio behind critically acclaimed RPGs like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Fallout 3 among many other classics, Starfield is perhaps Bethesda's most ambitious undertaking yet, launching players into space and letting them explore hundreds of planets. With Starfield being one of Xbox's largest new IPs it's no surprise that the space-faring RPG would get its custom controller treatment as many big Xbox titles in the past have.

Images of the custom Starfield controller were posted by a user on Imgur and they apparently originate from the Chinese internet. Four images of the controller are featured in the Imgur album, each showing off different angles. The controller is mostly white with gray lines and markings simulating what would be a sort of sci-fi control panel or yoke. The left stick is labeled "throttle," the d-pad is labeled "power distribution," and the left bumper is marked "scan." The four colored stripes that have become a main feature of Starfield's visual identity add a subtle touch of color up around the Xbox button. Additionally, "For All, Into The Starfield" graces the inside of the battery cover.

Since there's no confirmation from Xbox or Bethesda regarding the legitimacy of this controller, gamers are left speculating whether it's fan made. While it's certainly possible for talented fans to create custom controllers on their own that look legitimate, the Starfield controller in question looks incredibly detailed and official. It's difficult to say for sure, but the components in this controller look identical to ones featured on a real Xbox controller. Everything from the shape of the d-pad, the rubber grips and the battery cover all look legitimate.

It's possible that gamers won't need to wait too long to find out if this Starfield controller is real, as the Starfield Direct on June 11 could clear the air. The event could also go a step further in confirming whether Bethesda Game Studios' new massive space RPG might receive a custom Xbox Series X or Series S console. We've seen this happen in the past for other major Xbox titles like Halo Infinite and Gears 5, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a game as huge as Starfield receive similar treatment.

Starfield launches on September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
