Zero Gravity Tactical Shooter Boundary Is A Huge Hit

3.7
Boundary, the multiplayer tactical space shooter currently in Steam early access, has hit the ground running with an impressive 100,000 sold copies in less than 24 hours since its release on April 13. This news comes straight from developer Surgical Scalpels' press release, as relayed by Tryhardguides.

The game's concept is a no-brainer that will hook players right away. A multiplayer space shooter where you're free from the shackles of gravity (a rare breed in the current gaming landscape). It's reminiscent of the zero-gravity action in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which Activision regrettably never revisited due to its later fixation on hyper-realistic shooters. Fortunately, Surgical Scalpels is determined to recapture that long-lost magic and bring fans along for the development ride as well.

Frank Mingbo Li, Surgical Scalpels's director, expressed his excitement in the press release and teased a lot of future content and updates in store for the fans. His statement reads: “We always knew that our fans were just waiting to get into the game when it was ready to share. I’m beyond-excited that everyone seems to be enjoying themselves so far, and we can’t wait to share what the road ahead for new content and updates has in store.”

Players can now purchase the early access version of Boundary at a 10% discount in an offer that ends in three days on April 20. Available in three different tiers, the current build features a full 70+ level progression system, highly detailed maps with multiple classic game modes, detailed character and weapon customization, along with party and voice chat systems, so the quality available now will be enough for fans to make an informed opinion on the final release.

The Steam reviews for the game are currently a mixed bag, but the majority are positive about the game's potential. While some are singing praises for the game's impressive map design and 6 degrees of freedom movement, there are just as many complaints about the current weapon and loadout balance, server issues, not-so-great menu design, and the game's steep entry barrier for new players who don't have access to the latest and greatest weapons.

Still, these are all natural tweaks to be made for a multiplayer game still in development, and thankfully not flaws in the core of the design itself. The developer also mentioned that the full version will include some missing key features such as a battle pass and cross-platform support, so it seems that Boundary's hyperdrive will take some time to perfect.
