Following a claim from the event’s organiser that a “major company,” would return to the show, Koelnmesse and The German Games Industry Association have now confirmed that Nintendo will exhibit after a four-year absence.
“We are excited to announce that Nintendo will be exhibiting at Gamescom2023,” organisers said. “Many more exhibitors will follow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!”
It’s currently unclear what Nintendo’s presence at the event will consist of, as the largest titles the company has currently announced, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4, will have released by the time Gamescom takes place in August.
The company last attended the show in 2019 where it primarily featured games launching later that year. It also had a large number of booths for consumer attendees to try some of the games.
Nintendo is the first major publisher to confirm attendance at the show.
Also confirmed to return to Gamescom is Opening Night Live, the kick-off show hosted and produced by Geoff Keighley.
Opening Night Live is The Game Awards producer’s regular pre-show presentation for the German Gamescom expo, which last year took place in Cologne as an in-person event for the first time since 2019.
Gamescom 2023 will take place from August 22 to August 27. According to organisers Koelnmesse and The German Games Industry Association, as of the middle of March, this year’s Gamescom has ten percent more companies registered for 2023’s event than it did at this time last year.
