Snake Eater Remake Will Stick With The Original Voice Cast

3
Konami has triumphantly announced the return of the Metal Gear Solid series starting with a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The original game is arguably one of the greatest stealth games of all time, and it's fair to say that many are wary about Konami's recent track record. However, the developer is doing its best to assure fans that the remake will be as faithful as possible, going so far as to bring back the original game's voice cast.

This was confirmed in a blog post on the official Konami website, which claims that the remake will "star the original voice characters". It's unknown as to whether David Hayter and the rest of the voice actors are being brought in again, or if the developer is simply using pre-existing audio from other version of Snake Eater, but this will be a welcome announcement for fans hoping to see Hayter return to the role of Naked Snake.

Of course, Metal Gear fans will know that the original Solid Snake and Naked Snake voice actor David Hayter was replaced by Keifer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain, mostly due to series creator Hideo Kojima. Hayter was rather unceremoniously booted from the role, and his replacement was fairly controversial at the time. However, it's nice to see we'll get to see Hayter in the role once again, even if Konami is just using pre-recorded voice lines.

Just to really drive home how faithful this remake will be, the game's development team (who we assume is Konami at this point) released a separate statement thanking fans for their continued support and assured them that they're "working hard" to ensure the remake is a "faithful recreation of the original story and game design." It sounds very much like Konami is aware that it shouldn't be messing around too much with such a classic, and is mainly just updating the visuals and sound so it's more in line with modern releases.

On top of that, it also announced during the PlayStation Showcase that it will launch the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection later this year, a collection of the first three Metal Gear Solid games. There's even hints that this collection may contain even more Metal Gear goodness than that, although details regarding any more additions are being kept secret for now. In any case, it's nice to see Metal Gear's big return after being dormant for so many years, but we'll probably have to wait until next year at the earliest to dive back in into the jungle.
