The newest dungeon to hit Destiny 2 is being met with widely positive feedback from the community, but one lore-savey player has taken notice of a sizable plot hole regarding the central focus of said dungeon. Ghosts of the Deep, as the title implies, plays off Season of the Deep's return to the moon Titan along with the Hive's own belief in the Darkness and how it has been changing since the death of Oryx and Savathun gaining the Light. It sets the stage for an endgame activity brimming with lore for players to dig into, but as one player points out, the setup for the dungeon does not fit with previous events in the series.

Ghosts of the Deep tasks players with venturing under the waves of Titan's New Pacific Arcology to investigate a surge in Hive activity, believed to be linked with the growing influence of Xivu Arath across Destiny 2. However, players discover the Hive gathering under the methane waves are part of Savathun's Lucent Brood and have discovered the remains of Oryx on the ocean floor. Guardians are forced to delve deeper and deeper beneath the waves to stop the Lucent Brood as they attempt to use the Light to resurrect the former Taken King.

Destiny 2 player MyNameIsByf is one of several lore-focused creators who has praised the work Bungie put into the dungeon's narrative, especially with how it has pulled from some of the deepest parts of Hive lore. Byf was especially pleased with how the two bosses players face are enemies from the Taken King and Warmind expansions now returned as Hive Guardians. However, he took notice of one glaring plot hole for the dungeon which effectively undermines the setup of the entire activity, and it is how Oryx's body ended up on Titan in the first place.



Byf points out that at the end of the King's Fall raid, Oryx's body can be seen floating toward Saturn and was seemingly caught by the gravity in the planet's upper atmosphere. Titan is not visible in the skybox for the raid's final boss room, implying the moon is on the other side of Saturn at the time players attack Oryx's throneworld. Byf doesn't ignore the possibility that the remains could have somehow slingshot around the planet and ended up on the methane moon, though he personally finds it unlikely.

Plot holes are nothing new to the world of Destiny, with new ones seemingly appearing with each new expansion. That said, Bungie's narrative team has typically found ways to address and fill in said plot holes, most recently with one Season of the Deep quest meant to answer lingering questions about the Veil introduced in Lightfall. It is possible Oryx's remains being on Titan could be addressed down the road, as well, but only time will tell, especially with The Final Shape on the way.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
