Upon release, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was extremely popular, topping the Steam charts in the face of skepticism regarding the changes to the battle royale, as many felt the progress made in the original was scrapped with the sequel.
While the BR was off to a flying start, things have slowed down for Warzone 2, and the game’s popularity has dropped significantly over the course of the last couple of seasons.
Season 3 has seen the lowest player count to date, and despite new content such as weapons and even the addition of Ranked Play in the Reloaded update, things are getting worse.
According to SteamCharts, Warzone 2’s average number of players over the last 30 days has dropped to around 65,000, which is a loss of over 15,000 players in the last month.
To compare, when the game first launched back in November 2022, the game saw heights of 488,897 peak players, now this number sits at just 102,040.
If you look at the peak players over the months since launch, Warzone 2 has seen a continuous drop off, despite new season updates attempting to rekindle the flame.
It’s important to keep in mind that these figures are just for Steam and do not take console player numbers into account. However, these numbers tend to be a good indication of the overall population given how popular Steam is, so we can assume play count numbers have also dropped off on consoles.
Warzone 2 will drop Season 4 in June.
