Although we're just a few days away from Ubisoft's own big event at Ubisoft Forward, the studio decided to bring one of its big reveals to Summer Game Fest - a brand-new 2D Prince of Persia game that redesigns the Prince and brings things back to the first game's side-scrolling perspective.
The reveal trailer for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown gives us a detailed look at the game's combat and traversal systems, which look like the mechanics of the 3D game brought to a 2D space. One of the highlights of the trailer is the redesign for the Prince, who looks a lot different than we've ever seen him in a mainline game. In fact, in a series first, the Prince has actually been given a name, as Ubisoft has confirmed in a trailer description that he's called Sargon.
Although the initial trailer was fairly short, Geoff Keighley confirmed after the reveal that we'd be seeing more of The Lost Crown at Ubisoft Forward next week, so we're sure to find out more details on the game there.
Interestingly, this isn't the first that we've heard of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Last year, gaming insider Tom Henderson reported that Ubisoft was working on a 2D reboot of Prince of Persia that isn't anything to do with the Sands of Time remake. We've been waiting some time for that game to be announced, and it looks like it finally has been.
