Pikmin 4 Aims For Less Stress With New Time Bending Mechanic

3
Just a few days before Pikmin 4's official demo drops, a slew of hands-on previews from press outlets have gone live, and they've revealed some interesting bits of info about the upcoming Nintendo title, such as that players will be able to manipulate one of the game's fundamental mechanics, time, allowing them to easily make it as though their mistakes never happened.

Those unfamiliar with the series may not know that all Pikmin games function with a strict daily time limit. You begin playing at the start of the day, and you're meant to be as productive as you can within a certain amount of time, as any Pikmin or piece of treasure that doesn't reach your ship by sunset is lost.

Given that you have to return to the ship by nighttime, you're motivated to try and collect as much treasure as you can in this allotted timeframe (about 15 minutes), so you're incentivized to strategize and make quick decisions regarding which Pikmin to use for what and where, and thus optimize your treasure gathering as much as possible.

As per TheGamer, Pikmin 4 has added a mechanic to make the day cycle much more forgiving. You can now rewind time. The exact details of the mechanic aren't clear, but it was stated that this was done by going to a menu screen and was compared to reloading a save. Presumably, the game will continually create checkpoints as the day goes on, which you can go back to and load from if you feel like something didn't go quite your way.

VGC's preview claimed a Nintendo rep stated that the company had specifically aimed to make Pikmin 4 a "more accessible and less stressful experience than previous games," and there are certain other features detailed here that do seem to align with that.

There's an auto-targeting system, making it easier to shoot Pikmin at enemies, and the base where you deliver your collected treasure can apparently be moved with ease, removing the challenge of long-distance treks against the clock. TheGamer also states that Oatchi, your new partner dog, makes everything feel more achievable as you can move faster with him, and you're more confident taking on powerful enemies.
