That’s according to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, who confirmed the launch window while giving evidence in court on Wednesday.
Kotick was speaking during Microsoft’s ongoing court case against the US Federal Trade Commission, which is seeking to block the Xbox maker’s proposed $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Officially revealed last September, Warzone Mobile is being co-developed by Activision’s Shanghai, Beenox, Digital Legends and Solid State studios.
“Leveraging new unified technology across Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, players can share many social features (like friends and chat channels) and cross-progression enabling a shared Battle Pass and more for a connected Call of Duty experience,” Activision said at the time.
The free-to-play game was previously expected to be released worldwide for Android and iOS devices in 2023.
In addition to its flagship 120-player battle royale mode, Warzone Mobile will include multiplayer modes like Domination and Team Deathmatch, which have been designed to give players an additional way to level up their weapons.
Microsoft has said it expects Call of Duty: Mobile to be “phased out over time” for Warzone Mobile.
Developed by Tencent’s Timi studio, the free-to-play Call of Duty: Mobile was released in October 2019 and had topped 650 million downloads as of May 2022, according to Activision.
Following Microsoft’s claim that Call of Duty Mobile could be phased out after the launch of Warzone Mobile, Activision said it will continue to support the game with major updates “for the long haul”.
