Black Ops II grosses $1 billion in 15 days

Several days after industry analysts started to doubt the sales figures of Black Ops II and the future of the Call of Duty franchise, Activision remove all skepticism.

Just 15 days after the launch of Black Ops II, it has crossed the $1 billion mark in worldwide sales. By comparison, last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 reached $1 billion in retail sales in 16 days. The box office record for feature films set by “Avatar" in 2009, was $1 billion in 17 days

“The release of Call of Duty® has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard.
"Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for 'Harry Potter' and 'Star Wars,' the two most successful movie franchises of all time."

I don't think CoD will slow down in sales just yet. Probably, after the 720 releases it might.

Providential If the next COD doesn't have a new engine, I'm done with the series. They make all this money and only add different guns, make useless tweaks to perks, and different maps.


They will add a new engine so they'll make more money again and again ;)


There's really no point for them to make a new engine for current consoles since next gen is right around the corner. If they do come out with another CoD before next gen it will be the same engine with a few tweaks.


Isn't the next COD going to compete with BF4?


If it does, there won't be much competition. I personally enjoy both games but you would have to be completely ignorant if you believe any game will beat out the next Call of Duty. From an unbiased standpoint looking at strictly sales and amount of unique player it is safe to say the CoD series is the undisputed king of this generation and that will not change. Debate how "good" the game is or is not but Activision has created a winning formula for a perennial blockbuster to rule them all and anyone who tries to convince you otherwise must first throw all logic out the window before arguing their point. Love it, hate it or feel indifferent to the matter, in the end it really has no effect the facts don't lie.

Graphics aren't everything. Gameplay should matter the most.

You probably won't see a grpahical improvement in CoD until the next generation of consoles. (If CoD is still around)
