Tekken 8 Sounds Like It's Having Some Input Speed Issues

4
While it's only just entered into its first of two Closed Network Tests, upcoming fighting game Tekken 8 seems to be having some issues regarding the speed at which it processes button input from its players. In a message to testers on via Twitter, Game Director Katsuhiro Harada laid out instructions on how players can both decrease "jitter" and improve input speed. Still some players (who are presumably testing the game) had some negative comments even after receiving the director's instructions.

Following up on the in-person testing from earlier this year, the first of Tekken 8's Closed Network Tests, which is exclusive to PlayStation 5, began on July 21 and will continue through July 24. The second scheduled test, which will also incorporate Xbox Series X|S and Steam users, will last from July 28-31.

That workaround doesn't seem satisfactory to a lot of players, and some reported that even after switching around the settings, player input still seemed notably slow. "You have to compromise graphics in order to play with correct inputs?" commented @e_for_emile. Another Twitter user, @SideAccountOnly, seemed to think it odd that the most optimized setting isn't the default one, stating "this shouldnt be an option in this way imo, should be standardized for best outcome overall."

Several others reqested extra modification options so that players can more easily tailor the gameplay and graphical balance to meet their preferences, such as bar_barXII, who asked "Any chance the team could add a 4th option, 'custom' to let the player fine tune what input delay they personally want? I think that addition would really improve the user experience for everyone."

Even with commentary not related to the input speed, there still seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding Tekken 8, as the comment section shows. "This is not tekken 8, it is tekken 7's new season, nothing more," said user @ColorBigger. "All you did was copy-paste and slapped a 'new' sign on it. That means the Same old problems that made people quit tekken 7 are still there and nothing has changed."

While Harada is taking a lot of flack on his Twitter account, there has been a bit of positive feedback as well, including pleas to allow the testers to keep having access to the game until its official launch date. Added user @radientblog, "Im getting my ass beat each match but you know what? I love it. I enjoy Xiaoyu so much and the other players are so damn skilled. Thank you tekken- team, thank you Harada-san it’s so much fun."

Tekken 8 has no official release date, but most estimates have it coming out in early 2024.
