The internet's role on the dynamic between developers and gamers

4.6
In recent years, much to the advent of the internet, gamers have been heading online to voice their opinions concerning their favorite games for better or worse. Some developers largely ignore their player base when creating and maintaining their game post launch to better stay true to their initial vision for the game. The developers who do listen and are open to constructive feedback are torn on how to accurately decipher the views being given about their game due to how social media and forums receive this information. In many cases when issues come up with a game the most vocal users make themselves known rather quickly to the developers and community alike by spamming ideas repeatedly or making a large stink over issues on fan sites. These certain gamers may or may not represent the majority opinion on how the game should be taken forward but more often than not this will sway the developers to make knee jerk reactions to the “loudest moron in the room”. A reaction like this usually ends up with the developer caving in to the minority opinion while shunning the actual majority. A game developer needs to weigh in social media and forum feedback along with their own usage metrics to accurately assess how the community really feels if they want to make a balanced product everyone can enjoy.

Has one of your favorite games been taken down a path you just don't like? Sound off in the comments below, we would love to hear your input on this issue that is sure to boggle both gamers and game developers for years to come.

Activ8 The developers should just make the game they want. They don't need to listen to anybody else.

That's very true, either way people aren't going to like the game.

you're so right, and so wrong at the same time. CoD Devs? Please just release a beta. So we can play the game and give feedback on issues with the game before it comes out.

Its about time they listen to us...I like our opinions better because they point out spots Devs dont see.

So true, I think CoD has been changed in a lot of annoying ways because of how people complain about things. But, it does help a lot when they listen to things also, such as sniping in Black Ops for example. :) I really prefer they listen to the community though. :P

FPS_Ryan It's the worst when developers don't listen to the community.
