Images of what is rumored to be the PS5 Slim have been leaked online ahead of a potential announcement by Sony. The image was surfaced by journalist Andrew Marmo, who discovered the image on a Chinese forum known as A9VG.

The source of the image isn't known to be a reliable insider, so it's important to take these details with a pinch of salt for the time being. However, the details revealed via the new leaked image do line up with previously leaked information from industry insider Tom Henderson, who leaked the console back in September 2022.

It was claimed by Henderson that the next PlayStation 5 console would have a detachable disc drive, but would not ruin the aesthetic of the console as it would reportedly not look like an external drive. The detachable drive will supposedly connect to the console via an extra USB-C port on the back of the console.

Now, along with the leaked image of the console, new details suggest the PS5 Slim will be 5cm lower than the current PlayStation 5 console. If true, that would put the console closer to the height of the Xbox Series X. It has also been suggested that the new console will have two USB-C ports on the front of the console. Currently, the PlayStation 5 has one USB-A port and one USB-C port on the front of the console.

Internally, the console will reportedly feature the same hardware as the current PlayStation 5, which means any changes will simply be to the console's external design. Again, this lines up with previous rumors that the PlayStation 5 Slim and the PlayStation 5 Pro (the latter of which will see an upgrade to internal hardware) will be two separate consoles launching at separate times.

Henderson claims the PlayStation 5 Slim will be launching in September of 2023, followed by the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro in Q4 2024. But, for the time being, we recommend taking all details with a pinch of salt until Sony makes it official itself.
