The announcement was made Sunday via a livestream on Youtube as part of the game's 10-year anniversary. Created by Swedish indie developer Robert "Robtop" Topala, Geometry Dash first became available for download on iOS and Android on August 13, 2013, with a PC port following in December 2014. It is currently sitting with a "Very Positive rating" on Steam (93%), with more than 232,000 user reviews.
The stream itself pulled similar numbers, peaking with an excess of 200,000 concurrent viewers, and Robtop had a special message for everyone who tuned in. "So, uhh, 10 years, huh? Can't believe it's already been a decade," he said. "I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to each and every one of you. I couldn't have asked for a more creative and passionate community, and it's been awesome to see all the things you've done."
Robtop continued by apologizing for the lengthy gap between updates, but he promised that the version 2.2 update is "almost there, and I really look forward to seeing what you create with all the new features." In addition to the announcement, the anniversaty stream was filled with statistics on players' collective achievements over the years as well as the results from multiple fan polls, but nothing in the 26-minute stream set the comment section ablaze quite like the two and a half minutes of gameplay (that starts in the above video around the 21:40 mark), which features the game's classic platforming and challenging object avoidance action laid over a thumping soundtrack.
In addition to the original Geometry Dash, RobTop has also put out four mobile-only spinoff games: Geometry Dash Lite, Geometry Dash Meltdown, Geometry Dash World, and Geometry Dash SubZero, the last of which was released in 2017.
