New affordable iPhone from Apple?

4.4
The Wall Street Journal has been very vague in their sources, citing "people briefed on the matter", but claims have surfaced. The Wall Street Journal reports that there is a lower-end iPhone that could possibly debut as early as late 2013. This is apparently an attempt from Apple to try and regain some of the lost market share in the smartphone sector.

Apple has looked in to this type of device for years, but has never pulled the trigger on the idea. While this concept is being discussed, it is still not said to be a for sure items, so it could still be cut like previous ideas.

The phone would be cheaper to the consumer, but look very similar to the more costly existing models. Apple could switch the current body, which is aluminum, and replace it with a less costly polycarbonate plastic body.

The IDC reports that iPhones account for 14.6 percent of the worldwide smartphone shipments in the third quarter for 2012, which is down from 23 percent in the first quarter.

Reports earlier this month have claimed that Apple is already testing the next major changes of its smartphone and iOS operating systems, the iPhone 6 and iOS 7.

T0xic8ear They take Iphone out way to soon, there's almost no point of getting one because they'll have a new one coming very very soon.

True, I also feel like they don't add much to the new versions.

Thats the thing lol they dont they make the screens bigger thats it.

And substantial hardware upgrades. Benchmarks show the iPhone 5 processor being up to 3 times as good as the 4s one. Look it up on YouTube. Do you honestly think Apple would keep selling as many phones as they do if all they did was raise the phones height every now and then? Lol. Software wise, it's limited but they always update their hardware. Every iPhone that has come out since the first one has always had hardware upgrades. They need to ensure that it can keep up with the intense apps being put out. All manufactures do that, not just Apple. It's just common sense.

I agree, there is really no reason to keep upgrading what you have.

That's the same as saying let's not buy Call of Duty because a newer one comes out next year. Yet people do it.

With me it's not the phone itself that is the problem it is the data plan

-Syn So it would just be made out of plastic instead and it would be cheaper?
Just get a case for it.

Polycarbonate is one of the most enduring polymers on the market, it uses less money, is actually lighter and even if it is just plastic...it will be more durable. Probably the marketing solution Apple have been looking since the original iPhone's release.
