Rumor: More Next-Gen Xbox specs leaked

4.7
In our last article about about the new xbox's specs being leaked, we noted that it could have an eight-core CPU, and an 8800 series GPU. Well, more rumors have emerged over the past two days or so, which includes more information.

Along with the eight-core CPU, and the 8800 series GPU, the Next-Gen system could also include an 800-MHz graphics processor with 12 shader cores "providing a total of 768 threads", capable of a peak raw processing performance of 1.2 teraflops (1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second, tech heads; this should be good for you!). Like in the previous article, we also said the next Xbox could have 8GB of DDR3 RAM, but again, more information has emerged which state that the 8GB of RAM could be supplemented with 32 MB of fast embedded SRAM (Static random access memory.)

The disc drive is apparently a Blu-ray drive capable of reading 50GB Blu-ray discs at x6 read speeds.

The console will also apparently come with "Kinect multi-channel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware" which we have assumed will work together with the next version of the Kinect motion sensor.

Also rumored: there's mention of a 'HDMI 1.4a in', which suggests that the Next-Gem console may be able to receive a video signal from another device, such as a cable or satellite TV box, with the ability to record.

Here is a full list of the reported specs:

CPU:

- x64 Architecture.

- Each CPU thread has its own 32 KB L1 instruction cache, and 32 KB L1 data cache.

- Each module of four CPU cores has a 2 MB L2 cache resulting in a total of 4 MB of L2 cache.

- 8 CPU cores running at 1.6 gigahertz.

- Each core has one fully independent hardware thread with no shared execution resources.

- Each hardware thread can issue two instructions per clock.

GPU:

- Custom D3D11.1 class 800-MHz graphics processor

- 12 shader cores providing 768 threads.

- Each thread can perform one scalar multiplication and addition operation (MADD) per clock cycle.

- At peak performance, the GPU can effectively issue 1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second.

- High-fidelity Natural User Interface (NUI) sensor is always present

Storage and Memory:

- 8GB of DDR3 RAM (68 GB/s)

- 32MB of fast embedded SRAM (102 GB/s)

- From the GPU's perspective, the bandwidths of system memory and ESRAM are parallel providing combined peak bandwidth of 170 GB/s.

- Hard drive is always present.

- Disk Drive capable of reading 50GB Blu-Ray disks at x6 reading speeds.

Networking:

- Gigabit Ethernet

- Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct

Hardware Accelerators:

- Move engines.

- Image, video, and audio codecs.

- Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware

- Cryptography engines for encryption, decryption, and hashing.

Similarly with the previous article on the rumored specs of the next Xbox, take all of this with a grain of salt. Nothing has been confirmed yet, these are all rumors.

T0xic8ear This is definitely the Xbox I would like to see, but all this hardware gives Microsoft the right to escalate the retail price. But all its just a rumor, hope it isn't though.

They won't raise the price that much if they do at all.

Here's something to consider: What will the new controllers look like??

With these specs, I highly doubt that it will be 399. On release probably at least 499.

blu ray drive ~ $50 retail
88xx ~ $200 retail
wifi ~ $10 retail
motherboard ~ $40-60 retail
8GB RAM ~ $40-50 retail
CPU (dosent retail) assume $40-50
500GB HDD $40-70

Thats ~ 450 retail

it probably cost Micro$oft $300+ in parts (after bulk savings), $10 in labor, and 40 for shipping from china to warehouse to retail store so it probably cost Micro$oft $350 total and Micro$oft has to make more then $50 per console

skryllzz Is this good then?

No its worse than the first console..... :/

Afghani Wow, great specs. Better than some laptops

Better than mine, for sure.

seems good to me with 8gb ddr3 ram.

Hopefully, they'll develop some intense games for this "monstrosity".

VisionaryMGMT Xbox360 RAM: 512 MB
Xbox720 RAM: 8 GB

Xbox360 Processor: 3 cores, 3.2 GHz each
Xbox720 Processor: 8 cores, 1.6 GHz each

I don't even need to go any farther, this is complete overkill.

I believe a game like BF3 will run on Xbox at Medium (compared to PC graphics) w/ 512mb of RAM, while on PC, BF3 requires 2g and is recommended that you have 4g.

I honestly don't even really see a reason to make a new console.

This is where your going wrong...Battlefield on consoles is below low on the PC and the resolution is absolutely terrible on consoles, and this is with all of the optimization done to even allow consoles to run it

I don't understand people like this. Graphics to me has little to no impact on the game. It's all about whether or not it's fun. That just me though but that's maybe because I grew up playing the N64, Sega, and the original gameboy.

boback Might as well call it a "xpcmini" the specs are the same as a mini beefed up pc.
All in all nice to see that the xbox is evolving to a more pc base system, now all we will need
is be able play online for free.

If you cant afford to pay 50 dollars a year then I'm sorry but maybe you should be looking for work instead of wasting your time complaining. Plus if you wait until you see a sale you can get good deals. I got my live for 30 dollars but that's the cheapest I have ever seen it besides one dollar for one month.
