Microsoft 'to axe XNA'

4.6
The future of Xbox LIVE Indie Games is becoming clouded. Microsoft says DirectX 'is no longer evolving'.

Microsoft has given the clearest signal yet that it will phase out XNA, the development framework which had become popular among many indie game developers.

In an email reportedly sent to multiple game developers and MS employees, Microsoft confirmed that XNA would be "retired" from a program that promotes the company's own technologies.

However, many developers are still waiting on receiving this email.

The email said that XNA Game Studio is "not in active development".

In the long run, this would mean that the framework will be less and less relied on for developing Xbox games. But it is now speculated that Microsoft is preparing a replacement.

Microsoft would never destory Indie Games, it is actually a large chunk of Xbox Lives community, tons of people buy and play Indie Games, FortressCraft had over 1,000,000 downloads, Castle Miner Z is steadily climbing and so is Castle Miner, Total Miner, and so on. Although it is becomming clear that the xbox community really enjoys the Sandbox-Voxel games, and that shows in the Indie Games sales. Only those really sell sadly.

Yeah, I agree. Such a big part of the community enjoy's them.

I honestly don't like indie games to begin with. A lot of their games are knock off of other games, such as Castle Miner Z.

Medion Indie games have NO publisher, THEY ARE INDEPENDENT.

this is completely untrue. Do you really think that one person could do some of the stuff on there? No it's mostly professionally done by a publisher. Even though the xbox live marketplace says they are this is quite the contrary. They are not all published independently.

An Indie game is developed by an Independent Development Team. Not one person, some times it is but most of the time it's 2-6 people. I am a Indie Dev and I know most of the Indie Dev teams on XBL. I've worked o around 15 Games, and my team consist of 6 awesome people.
