Cyberpunk 2077 Writer Says His Favorite Easter Eggs Are Still A Secret

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 are two titles with more easter eggs per square foot than any other RPG combined. Between them, they hold references to Doctor Who, Death Stranding, Tomb Raider, Game of Thrones, GTA, and any other mildly popular movie, TV show, or game released in the last few decades. They're so stuffed with easter eggs that they even reference each other from time to time.

They're so easter egg heavy that a few developers recently talked during the most recent AnsweRED Podcast (thanks GamesRadar) about how they manage to cram so many in. That's when Cyberpunk 2077 story director Marcin Blacha dropped the bombshell that his personal favorite references haven't actually been discovered yet, as far as he knows, and that they're "still a secret" waiting for someone to uncover.

To be honest, my favorite of those tiny little funny things, those Easter eggs, are still a secret. As far as I know, they are not discovered yet.

Blacha goes on to explain that these favorite easter eggs of his are actually very difficult to find, and that he's not giving fans about to head out on a hunt any clues as to where they might be. To make matters even more difficult, Blacha doesn't specify which title he's referring to either, meaning fans will need to scour both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 to find them. That's a pretty difficult task when you consider how massive they both are.

Still, you never know when someone might trip over a sneaky little reference whilst playing, and new discoveries are being made pretty regularly even to this day. For example, a secret easter egg was discovered earlier this week, as one player managed to stumble across an incredibly well-hidden reference to The Matrix, recreating one of the film's more iconic scenes.

Just before Blacha's little tease, he also explains how CD Projekt Red goes about actually choosing what easter eggs to include in their games, and it turns out they're actually quite personal touches. Blacha explains that instead of having a big list of stuff to hide away, easter egg ideas are usually spawned from individual ideas by developers that are so good that "you cannot stop yourself from making it.

Usually, they're such good ideas that they manage to rope a few other individuals into implementing them, and that's how references to things like Death Stranding and The Matrix sneak their way into CD Projekt Red games. It's just that sometimes these ideas are so good that fans don't find them for years, though now Cyberpunk and Witcher fans have essentially been called to action by Blacha, we can expect them to be found within the hour.
