Next-Generation Xbox could be called the X8

After reading an Xbox tutorial guide by Microsoft, it seems to suggest that the next Xbox might be called the X8 or Xbox Infinity.

The official Xbox website has tutorial pages that explain how to use various features of the Xbox 360. The interesting part of these tutorials is that two pages refer to the X8.

"Play a Game (includes X8)" and "Listen to Music (includes X8)"

This could essentially be interpreted to mean that the instructions are applicable to both the X8 console and the Xbox 360.

Could this be a listing of the compatibility of the X8 mouse with an Xbox platform?

The next-generation console is expected to be revealed later this year, so without confirmation, we're only left to speculate.

The 8 is the Infinity Sign. They both mean the same thing.

AJRacer543 I would personally like it to be Xbox Infinity more than anything else. These names like 720 makes no sense, and 8 seems too dull for me.. Regardless, if these silly "No used-games" and "constant internet" rumors turn out to be false it will be a definite buy. Can't see Microsoft taking away used games as they'll lose a lot of revenue.


Always on connection requirement and blocking used games are all suicide strategies for MS so i can't see them implementing them (class-actions aside).

X8 seems an Oddball name considering that we haven't had X3 yet, and considering that it's to promote Windows 8 which is the worst OS since Windows Millennium, it doesn't seem like such a good name after all.

X8 is just like Windows 8. If they bring out a Windows 9 then they still don't have to change the name to X9. Think of the Windows Phone 7. When they made Windows 8 they didn't change the names of the Windows Phone 7 to Windows Phone 8.

Best explantations for the "8" that I've seen are that it has windows 8 and 8 looks similar to an infinity sign.

This is why they should have called the "Xbox 360" the Xbox 2. Now, they can't call the next Xbox the Xbox 3, because people can confuse that with the [b]3[/b]60.
