Next-Generation Xbox will make Kinect mandatory according to reports

4.5
According to a new claim/rumor that has come out today, the next-generation Xbox will require a Kinect sensor to be plugged in at all times to be able to function.

Every console will be coming with a Kinect, although it will be a much more advanced version of the Kinect, right out of the box.

The new Kinect will apparently be capable of tracking up to six people at the same time, and can track smaller things such as hands and fingers, facial recognition, and even facial expressions.

According to reports, the next-gen console will also have multi-tasking capabilities, including the ability to run more than one game at a time. Another feature could be one that allows you to "suspend" a game, meaning you can switch to another game and then back without losing your exit point in either.

Also, reports say that unlike the Xbox 360, all Durango consoles will come with a 500GB internal hard drive. Also, full disc games will require mandatory installation on the first boot-up, but the installation can be done in the background while you are playing the game.

Recently, reports from Edge have come out that the new Xbox will require an always-on internet connection, which will allow Microsoft to detect and block the people from playing used games.

VEVO I need a job. This sounds amazing.

It sounds as if all they want is for you to spend as much money as you can.

Yes, YOU be a multi billion dollar company and see if making more money isn't your goal. Kind of defeats the purpose of making now technology, doesn't it? Less money, less investing.

If this and not being able to play used games is true then I will seriously reconsider moving to either pc or playstation

DeadlyDasher This sounds terrible, when I get back from the gym/playing basketball/whatever physical activity, I just want to sit down, rest, and play a game. Not wave my arms from left to right trying to select things.

It says it is mandatory to have it plugged in, not mandatory to play it. Derp.

Why have it mandatory at ALL? I think if these rumors prove to be true, the PS4 will win by a crushing landslide and Xbox will be forced into where Sega is right now.

Honestly this motion sensing fad needs to stop.

Cammo To be honest I dont see the point in a new console, it is just going to be the 360 in a new shape.

I agree. The Kinect coming with the Xbox is stupid. I bet most people play in their room with enough space just for their Xbox and now the Kinect is required for it to function. I swear Xbox is going lose to the PS4 if stuff like this is going to happen.

Just because it may be forced for a Kinect to be connected, it doesn't mean that you'll have to use it. There's no way that movement based gaming will forever takeover normal gaming.
Other than for fitness benefits, movement based games are purely a gimmick that get old very quickly unless drunk, or with family and friends for a special occasion. Such as the Nintendo Wii, we bought one on release day, and other than for Wii Sports at Christmas time and Wii Fit every so often it doesn't even get touched.

If this is true I'm not even sure if I will get the next Xbox :/

I personally don't want a device that is always connected to the internet, tracking every movement in my living room. Sounds a little 1984 to me...
